Childhood myopia management with SMYLE
SMYLE — Swiss Myopia Lens Experience spectacle lenses are designed to help slow myopia progression in children while correcting vision, with regular professional follow-up.
Technology and research
The licensed SMYLE FreeForm design is based on technical specifications and research from the Brien Holden Vision Institute (BHVI).
Alongside earlier research focused on Asia, a European SMYLE study reported slower myopia progression compared with single-vision lenses. Participating children described visual acuity as excellent to good, with high visual comfort at different distances.
Design features
- Helps slow the eye elongation associated with myopia progression.
- Accommodative support.
- Asymmetric peripheral defocus.
- An appearance similar to conventional single-vision lenses.
Material and protection options
UV protection is reviewed according to the selected lens material. Blue-light filtering is optional with B-UV material, while break resistance relates to materials such as Trivex or polycarbonate.
